When it comes to health and fitness, the team at La Posada is intent on creating a multifaceted environment designed to promote and improve each resident’s overall wellness.

This commitment will soon kick into overdrive as the community participates in National Senior Health and Fitness Day on May 26. The observance is the nation’s largest older-adult health and wellness event, with more than 100,000 seniors participating in events across the country.

The goal of this year’s Senior Health and Fitness Day event is to promote exercise in motion while reinforcing the elements of wellness that strengthen and empower people.

La Posada designed its programming around the six dimensions of wellness, which all positively contribute to enhancing whole-person wellness. The theme of La Posada’s event this year is “Life is Better in Motion!” and participants will take part in a variety of events throughout the day.

The day will kick off with a 45-minute aerobics class hosted by the wellness team. The activity focuses on balance, strength, and cardiorespiratory physical movements, as well as social interaction, emotional well-being, mental alertness, and positive energy.

The second event of the day will highlight La Posada’s brand-new Cardio Drumming class. Participants in this low-impact class use wooden sticks to drum on a stability ball in rhythm to music. The movements help improve fitness levels, reduce blood pressure and stress hormones, and boost immune system function – but most importantly, the activity is fun and engaging.

The final events of the day will focus on a rehab screening with Director of Rehab Diane Maguire and a lecture on blood pressure and stress from the Wellness Department, followed by a blood pressure screening with help from Horizon Care Services. These final events will provide information catered to the individual to further assist in La Posada’s efforts to provide residents with a vibrant and active lifestyle.
